Incedibly rare right-hand drive Slough built Citroen Rosalie; subject
to a thorough and well documented home restoration; running and driving example
ready to enjoy
Introduced in 1932, the Citroën
Rosalie range comprised a variety of four- and six-cylinder models, with the
10HP occupying the middle ground between the smaller 8HP and larger 15HP. The
Rosalie name became synonymous with Citroën following a series of remarkable
endurance records achieved at the Montlhéry circuit in France, helping to
establish the marque’s reputation for engineering innovation and
reliability.
Manufactured in 1934, this handsome
right-hand-drive 10HP was produced at Citroën’s Slough factory, which supplied
cars for the British and Commonwealth markets.
While little is known about the car’s early life, our vendor
purchased the Rosalie in a very poor state in the early 2000s from Dorset,
having been involved in a barn fire. The previous owner had already begun
stripping the car down for engine work.
Accompanied by nearly all of the mechanical parts required in boxes,
our vendor set about piecing the car back together. The body was removed, with
the chassis subsequently stripped and painted, before the project took a back
seat during a house move.
Some years later the
rebuild resumed, with a full rewire, repaint and reupholstery all commendably
completed. Further details of the work undertaken can be found in an
accompanying article within the file, which records the car’s restoration and
was featured in the Citroën Car Club magazine in 2013. The work also included
safety upgrades for modern motoring, including indicators and headlight
flashers.
As can be seen in the accompanying
photographs, the restoration continues to present well, with the car retaining
its handsome and striking appearance. The two-tone paintwork, whilst
hand-painted, suits the car’s lines particularly well and adds to its character.
The interior remains equally charming and usable.
With a thorough and documented enthusiast restoration, interesting
history and running and driving on site, this Rosalie presents a rare
opportunity to acquire a turnkey, right-hand-drive 1930s Citroën. Surviving
examples are now rarely encountered in the UK, particularly in this Slough-built
specification.
