Produced from 1926 - 1930, the sporting Speed Six was one of the most clebrated Bentleys ever made, being immortalised by Woolf Barnato who raced Le Train Bleu from Cannes to Calais in his Blue Train Bentley, beating it by such a margin that he had crossed the Channel and was back in his London club before the train had even reached Calais. 

This fabulous miniature Speed Six was made by one of the most renowned craftsmen in this very specialised market niche. A vintage car enthusiast, he has built many miniature versions of exotic cars owned by some very distinguished clients over the years – some of them intricate ‘tool room’ copies, some just fun playthings for children. Earlier in his career, he also made the Rolls-Royce pedal car elsewhere in this sale (Lot 191).

This particular car is a copy of the Speed Six pedal cars built by Lines Brothers (forerunners of Triang) in the 1920s and '30s. The body is all-aluminium apart from the bonnet which is made of steam-bent birch ply, as per the Lines Bros cars.

As you can see in the photos, this Speed Six pedal car is in fabulous condition throughout and while it would make a great gift for a child, we think it deserves rather better than that and would be a real talking point in any cocktail bar or gentleman’s outfitters. Or just a wonderful ornament to grace your man cave.

The last full-size Speed Six sold on the open market made over $2m in August this year so that rules it out for most of us, but if you can settle for a slightly smaller version at a fraction of the cost, this could be just the ticket. Toot, toot, all aboard!
